Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Julia S — 01 May 2008
Herzog's film brings Antarctica alive for all of the people who are unlikely to ever have the opportunity to visit themselves. The sheer vastness and climate extremes are hard to imagine, but at the same time man has clearly made his own footprint on the continent.
Learning a bit about some of the people living and working on Antarctica was fascinating, and it's plain to see that it definitely takes a certain kind of personality. Herzog himself, as the narrator, has a knack for wry humor that will have you grinning.
I enjoyed this film as part of closing night at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival.
