Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by John T — 23 Jul 2008
Werner Herzog can make anything interesting even a film about Antarctica. The shots are obviously beautiful: the desolate, icy landscapes and in the water under the large layer of ice that covers most of the continent.
But the film is not just about the continent itself but the people that live, work, and research there and they are mostly very awkward and interesting. Purposely or not, it's very funny in parts.
Herzog is a comedic genius whether he knows it or not (a chimpanzee straddling and riding a goat). The only downside to the movie is that it feels longer than it is but all-in-all it's a great film.
