Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Amilcar A — 26 Jul 2008
Werner Herzog is a great cinematographer but this is not a great movie. The idea was fabulous and technically the movie is stellar but the concept fell short - largely because of Herzog's gigantic ego.
For starters, Herzog narrated the movie and his style came across as crass and a little rough; the entire tone would have been better with a more appeasing reader.
The film also comes across as dismissive and a bit offensive in a rather unnecessary way.
Given the magnificence of the location and the superb style in which the movie was shot it was certainly a decent showing but nowhere close to other gems like Grizzly Man. I also hate to say this but I did not like the score one bit.
