Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Heather M — 03 Feb 2009
Would you be surprised to learn that Antarctica is almost entirely inhabited by huge nerds?
No, neither was I. This isn't so much a nature documentary as a look at the people who live and work in Antarctica's scientific community. There's equal parts stunningly beautiful looks at the unspoiled beauty of the south pole, and fascinating interviews with the people who live there. For the first time, I see the cheerful squalor in which these scientists live, and it makes me want to go there.
And yes, there are penguins.
