Review of El Topo (1970) by Laurent L — 01 Sep 2008
There's a lot not going for this film, but it is definitely unforgettable. The movie has a bunch of great images, mostly commenting on sexual and racial identity. Probably my biggest problems with the movie is the pacing for the first half of the film, and production value.
I have no idea what the financing was like for the film, but I can only assume it was limited. Eventually I would like to see The Holy Mountain to see what had improved with editing and what not. But I can't help but think sometimes that this film is just another movie to watch when you high off drugs, mainly seeing how it is almost impossible to find a good analogy on the symbolism on the film.
