Review of El Topo (1970) by Anthony I — 18 Mar 2015
Whimsical, maddening and covered in blood. El Topo is one of the greatest surrealist films ever made. The imagination runs wild, and never stops. It's crafted so carefully and beautifully, despite being so shamelessly brutal in parts.
But at it's core, it's a true western. What it does to the western genre, on the other hand, is completely unexpected, and entertaining as hell.
