Review of Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) by Michael R — 14 Oct 2007
A delightful tale of a family symbolically bound together by a weekly feast prepared by the father, a master Chinese chef. The actors are all excellent and bring their characters to life in the same way director Ang Lee brings the art of cooking to life.
There is an incredible sensuality present throughout this film about basic human desires. Each character struggles with his desires and the effort to temper them. The desires win out in every case (each in its own way) and in the end there is very little suffering.
In some ways the ending may seem a bit artificial but it works well in the movie.
