Review of Drugstore Cowboy (1989) by Jeff H — 06 Nov 2012
The ultimate junkie-movie, specially tailored for junkie-movie junkies who are also themselves, drug fiends. if you like narcotics and love to romanticize the lifestyle and lament about all the drugs you did that you wish you could get back and all the money you wasted that you wish you could get ba.
..read moreck and you wish you could give it up but you just want to do it one more time and yet still fantasize about hitting the jackpot at a mom 'n' pop drug store (as all junkies do) then you are bound to love this movie and it will hold a special place in your heart forever.
it doesn't matter who the actors are, it's a junkie's story, they have a captive audience here. I will even go so far as to say, if you haven't "been there" for yourself, you will not get anything out of this movie other than some great performances and direction but as a "straight" or a "normal" (a.
K.a. non-junkie) you probably won't be compelled to go back for further viewings. again, this is a movie made for junkies (and there are a lot more of them around than the average schmuck thinks) if you, yourself, have a habit, you are truly going to "get off on" this movie.
if you are truly adventurous you might even try the fun stuff they did in the movie but if you do, be prepared to get shot in the back in 2012, this ain't the 70's, the days of knocking over a pharmacy and just walking away from it alive are long gone.
don't watch this flick when you are nodding but don't watch it while you're trying to kick either...
