Drugstore Cowboy may be a more realistic depiction of drug addiction than many films which touch on the topic, but that should hardly be confused with "realistic". This is still highly streamlined and romanticized, particularly within the realm of Bob's attempt to quit.
Regardless, the story is good and the execution is pretty fantastic.
