Review of Drugstore Cowboy (1989) by Chris W — 02 Feb 2013
Van Sant depicts the ravaging effects of drug abuse on this dysfunctional group, while Dillon's voiceover adds a twinge of melancholy. And who else but William S. Burroughs could make such a convincing dope-addicted priest? A breakthrough for Van Sant, "Drugstore Cowboy" rides high on the low life. A brutal, crudely poetic film.
"Something to relieve the pressures of their everyday life, like having to tie their shoes.".
