Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Becca K — 10 Oct 2008
Coming of age story that evolves around a boy, his domineering mother and his new found friend, who is a retired, eccentric actress. Caught in two different worlds, the boy (Ben) starts to see things on his own and decides his own destinies.
Great to see Rupert Grint and Julia Walters together in this movie (last movie they did together was Harry Porter series.. Julia Walter is Rupert's mother, Mrs Weasely).
Ben (calls himself a poet) wrote a poem for a girl which he likes; but after reading it, she finds him weird.
"You are the harvest, Godâ??s water and wheat.
Birds fly for you, sing for you.
Each wing a beat of my heart for you.
Felt for you, my clay feet.
I do not sing for you, do not fly for you.
Iâ??m not water, Iâ??m not wheat.
I would be dove, I would be hawk.
Your milky breasts, my strange meat".
I wish the ending would be slightly different. Maybe they can develop a sequel to this one. Ben off to college to study English. Maybe Evie (the actress) would go up there and see him one day and have their little adventures again.
