Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Laura N — 21 Mar 2016
Drag Me to Hell is directed and co-written by Sam Raimi, and it stars Alison Lohman and Justin Long in a horror comedy film about a loan officer that refused a third extension to a Roman woman, she cursed him for three days, and if Christine (Alison Lohman) doesn't find a way to get rid of the curse in three days, then she gets sent to hell.
It's been a while since I've seen Drag Me to Hell, and I have no idea if I liked it back then, or if it was overrated consider that critics really loved it. So I got to watch it, and Drag Me to Hell is a great film.
Alison Lohman is a really good lead in this, and Jason Long is a really good supporter in this film. The story is surprisingly refreshing from the supernatural films that I usually watch, and the scares are mostly effective.
The score by Christopher Young is really creepy and is chillingly effective to the film, and the writing by the Raimi brothers has a good balance of horror with comedy in it, which it's also funny too.
The chemistry between Christine and Clay is very genuine that I am convinced that they are together. The effects are great, but at some parts it looks really fake, and the poster actually does spoil a major plot point which I'm not sure why they thought the poster was a good idea to use.
As is, Drag Me to Hell is much better than Sam Raimi's previous film Spider-Man 3, and I'm happy to see him return to a horror film.
