Review of Dope (2015) by Martin W — 21 Jun 2015
Really good movie. A message underlies the fun but doesn't get in the way. The main character is attempting to get into Harvard despite coming from a downtrodden crime ridden neighborhood. "If I were white would you think to ask me why I wanted to go to Harvard?" A simple yet poignant point that still needs to be pointed out in our society.
I am a child of the nineties and loved the music that set the mood of the film. His two sidekicks did a good job and in no way hinder a really solid performance by Moore. It was raunchy, raucous, diverse in its meaning and its themes.
It was a party movie a movie with strong social commentary and definitely worth a watch.
