Review of Donnie Darko (2001) by Jake M — 05 Jul 2016
Always interesting, continually surreal, 'Donnie Darko' is a treat for a late-night heady viewing. If you can get past the unsavory pretension of the characters, a few confusing plot holes, and the thick 80s vibe (which I loved), this film is rewarding and thought-provoking. Just don't come here looking for anything straightforward.
Bonus points for Jake Gyllenhaal, who nails perfectly the angst and snobbery of being a 16 year-old loner.
