Review of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist (2005) by Mark G — 04 May 2009
The best thing you can say about Dominion is that it sets up The Exorcist nicely, adding depth to the character of Merrin, although Merrin himself was so brilliantly portrayed in the original that this was hardly necessary.
In Dominion, Merrin assumes the position of Karras in the original, having a crisis of faith and reclaiming it through confrontation with evil, becoming the battle-scarred Exorcism veteran we see in the 1973 classic.
It's not very scary or tense, save perhaps for the part where they explore the church for the first time, but thank God it's better than the Heretic.
