Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Adam P — 18 Nov 2008
Well done in most respects. It is, however, terribly tragically long. Whereas Gone With the Wind earned much of its length by its soap-opera nature, this film is long because it is ponderous. It is filled with zillions of laborious establishing shots of the Russian countryside.
The story itself is epic, but it is not expansive enough to justify 3 hours and 20 minutes. In less technical terms, Iz got bored.
