Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Jack G — 23 Nov 2008
I don't even like the Dixie Chicks' music very much (then again for contemporary Country music it probably doesn't suck as much as 98% of it and the girls are pretty talented musicians), but this was a good doc, focusing on how easy and frightening a controversy like the "Bush sucks" thing can be, and that light at the end of the tunnel of it all.
It's also another friendly reminder why people who listen regularly to country music usually have the IQ of a wombat. One other perk: Barbara Kopple gets the best behind-the-scenes wheeling-n-dealing footage of a band's record company and 'people' since Gimme Shelter.
