Review of The Big One (1997) by Robin S — 05 Dec 2009
This movie was lame. Unlike Sicko and Fahrenheit 9/11, The Big One lacked focus. It was just sort of self indulgent- Micheal Moore on a book tour acting like a celebrity.
And harassing people. While I feel for those who have unfairly lost their jobs, it strikes me as bizarre for the ultimate solution to lie in gaining celebrity attention. Additionally, the movie put forward a pretty simplistic view of social inequality, namely that the wealthy are greedy and therefore screw everyone over. It seems to me that there are pretty obviously some major structural features at play, logics that are being enacted and reproduced, rather then simply evil CEOs making free decisions. Anyway, it is all good. This is a great movie to skip.
