Review of Diner (1982) by Jesse C — 06 Jul 2007
One of the best "guy" films ever. Levinson really "got it" as far as capturing what it was like to be in your early twenties and trying to find your way through life and the different directions eveyone goes in.
The dialogue is incredibly well written and delivered - and to think these were all unknown actors at the time. You can tell it's a first film. Like many great first albums you can tell Levinson worked on this for years to get it just right and could never quite recapture that brilliance again.
The acting is all top shelf and the dialogue and direction are all picture perfect. Cinematography also manages to make the film look even older than it already is.
