Review of Diner (1982) by Brian S — 02 Feb 2012
A very typical coming of age story in the fashion of conversational 80s drama. the characters and their conflicts are subtle, almost to the point of appearing dull. the story has a very natural, realistic feel to it, but it accomplishes this almost too well.
I imagine encountering these guys in a diner--I would very much enjoy eavesdropping on their conversations and might even like to do a little follow-up eavesdropping on a few other occasions. I wouldn't, however, instantly think "hey, someone should make a movie about these people.
" and that's about my feeling with this movie. it's slightly entertaining to watch a few young adults stumbling in and out of maturity and listen to their thoughts and feelings along the way.
..but by the time the credits roll, I go away not really caring.
