Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Westleigh Q — 19 Jul 2013
Connery's final romp as Bond is a so-so adventure that fails to stand up to his earlier outings. With M, Q, and Moneypenny barely playing a role, and both Blofeld and Leiter being recast, this felt like a complete revamp of the series.
Also, Connery was clearly starting to show his age by this point, so it's hard to believe he'd be so irresistable to every 24 year old girl he happens to encounter. Bright spots included Mr. Wint and Mr.
Kidd, Blofeld's ruthless, and creepy, assassins, and the fun car chase/stunt sequence. I'm sure audiences could tell the 007 franchise needed a shot in the arm as well, as Bond was ultimately replaced by Roger Moore after this film.
