Review of Death Race 2000 (1975) by Devon — 11 Sep 2008
Wow. Now here is a movie straight from the "grindhouse". In the future (the year 2000 to be exact), America is part of a world government. There are annual deathraces that all the world follows.
In these races, running over people counts as points. The racers all have colorful outfits, gimmicks and fancy cars. Stallone (in one of his earliest roles) is Machine gun Joe, a jerky racer with two macine guns and a giant bowie knife stuck to the hood of his car.
Carradine is "frankenstein", a racer who's had to have half his body replaced by mechanical parts due to all the accidents he's been in. Frankenstein is a great hero though, and he generally wins all the races.
There is also a secret underground run by "Tomalina Paine", and this underground is bent on stopping the race and restoring humanity to the country. The movie might be one of the funnier movies i've seen recently, the acting is pretty comical, and so is everything else about the future.
Cue Conan O' Brian singing "...in the year two thousandddd".
