Review of Death Note (2017) by Luke M — 25 Aug 2017
The anime is one of my favorite series of all time. Although the thought of an adapted American version was intriguing to me, this movie was all wrong. The story was changed extremely, but in all the wrong ways.
Completely missed the key points of the original story, and turned it into some lackluster garbage teenage movie. I think anyone who's seen the original anime series would agree that the character of Ryuk was completely wrong in this.
Even the look of him was so bad. I was very excited for the release of this film, and to see what they did with the story. But it left me completely disappointed. The visual aspect of this film was decent at best.
Adam Wingard did a pretty underwhelming job, but in his defense, I don't think even the best directors in the world could fix the awful writing of this.
