Review of Death Note (2017) by Johnathon W — 03 Dec 2018
This film is an insult to the source material.
The only good part was Ryuk.
Light is a poorly played idiot.
None of the other characters are well shown to the audience except the incipid 2-dimensional and irrational girlfriend character.
The camera work is poor, the story is what you should expect when you try to cram 100+ hours of story into 90 minutes by cutting away.
The characterd have been Americanised, which means a nearly universal whitewash whil L is the only none-white character.
The whole thing makes no sense in an American setting as it divorces the culture of Japan from itself. The story itself is paper thin as though someone was described the plot over a phone with dodgy connection in 5 minutes flat. It treats its audience like idiots...
There is so much more I could say about this film as it disgusts me to my core, but try and watch it and you will see. Whichever critics voted 40% for this should be investigated for accepting bribes.
Simply put, this is the Avatar the last airbender to Avatar the legend of Aang, The Last Jedi to Empire Strikes Back, Amazing Spiderman to Spiderman Homecoming.
Okay for a first year student film on YouTube in the early 2000s.
