Review of Dear Evan Hansen (2021) by Macy429 — 24 Sep 2021

Having never seen the original stage production, I was unsure of what to expect, but excited nonetheless as I love a good musical. I am also a huge fan of Stephen Chbosky, as well as Justin Paul, so I had high hopes.

With that being said, the movie fell flat on nearly every aspect necessary for a good movie/musical. The music was not memorable (the singing was amazing, don't get me wrong) and sometimes felt arbitrary.

I found it difficult to support the main character as he continued to make one bad decision after another. And not only did the main character make decisions that were hard to get behind, but so did the supporting characters, leaving you no one to root for.

At the end of the day, the movie was interesting, and kept my attention, but I probably would not watch it again. I kept on waiting for the "big reveal" to happen, and when it did, it was unsatisfying.

If you're bored one night, give this a shot, but don't expect anything mind-blowing.
