Review of Dear Evan Hansen (2021) by Bigtech — 25 Sep 2021

I found the film version excellent and very moving (I saw the live show in New York with Ben Platt). I don't know why there is such negativity about this film. It has constant tension as we see Evan make a huge mistake and plunge into a morally ambiguous world where his bad action has many positive outcomes.

The songs are fantastic and the music numbers are well-directed. I did think it was a bit too long -- some of the songs seem like asides that didn't add up to anything for me. Overall, if you like movie musicals, this is a good one.
