Review of Dead Poets Society (1989) by Yougyeong C — 13 Jun 2018
Before I saw this movie, my teacher told me that this movie will make me want to be a teacher. I expected this movie because my dream is to become a teacher.
An unusual teacher enters a school with a strict atmosphere. As soon as teacher enters, he teaches students about Carpe Diem and tells them to live their own life. The teacher asked the students to rip up the book and stand at the desk. Even now, in 2018, this method of education will be considered unique.
How would we react if Mr. Keating came to our class?
Did I like and follow teachers like the students in the movie?
I am not sure to say so honestly.
Of course, I don't mean I don't like the teacher's teaching style.
I think Mr. Keating's method of education can find enough individuality and dream for each child. But it is not welcome in our nation's education system now.
The current reality is that test scores determine the level of university and it soon determines our future. If Mr. Keating comes to our class, students will hate him because he teaches us not relevant to the exam.
This is reality. We concerned about dream until we went to the university. It is not easy to find dream in the high school.
We sometimes study without any special reason. A dream is necessary for a good life. A teacher like Mr. Keating is necessary for a good dream.
Changes in the educational environment are necessary for good educators.
I want to be a school where I think Mr. Keating's teaching style is not strange. So I hope we truly enjoy our life...
