Review of Dead Poets Society (1989) by Rhys G — 01 Dec 2012
The story's been made before, but there's an energy and focus within the screenplay that seems fresh. In saying that, the film's inevitably riddled with genre chestnuts and cliches, but for the most part, I found myself noticing them and enjoying it anyway.
Williams' performance was mostly understated, and Ethan Hawke makes a brilliant debut. The ending was coming, some of the shots are teetering on the cheesy side, but man, I was still engrossed and in tears in the final sequence.
My head wanted me to throw up but my heart was already too immersed.
