'Dead Poets Society' has a great general tone and feel to it, recalling a certain less dangerous time in America (was there?), and the performances are for the most part good but the movie never takes off as an inspirational film, a film dealing with the bankrupt school system it only deals with in one dialogue scene, and some of the dialogue and acting, especially from the youngsters, is too goofy.

The movie hasn't dated well and isn't perfect but as a light drama about loving life and literature it marginally succeeds. The photography is beautiful, if not awkward at times (the dorm-room scenes come to mind).
