Review of Dead Calm (1989) by Seth R — 26 Nov 2008
Pretty bad movie. Nicole Kidman looks like a beaver. Does she have more than two front teeth on top? But that's not all. The movie begins with the death of a child (no spoiler alert needed). Then an entirely different thing happens, and the death-of-a-the-child thing is never gone back to. There could have been a lot of potential to make out of it which would have made for a much more suspenseful film. Instead, it seems like they probably made the movie without that preliminary plot point and felt like it needed a little something more, and just tacked on the beginning. But that just made it worse.
I mean, Sam Neill suspects Billy Zane might be a psycho killer, so he leaves him alone on a ship with his wife while he goes to check out his hunch? PuhLEEEZE!
