Review of Days of Wine and Roses (1963) by Bertn60 B — 29 Mar 2009
Like "The Lost Weekend" a decade before it, "Days of Wine and Roses" explores the toll alcohol abuse takes on people. This movie holds nothing back as it follows a couple in a nearly never-ending bender for seven years.
The acting by Lemmon and Remick is amazing and there are powerful scenes left and right. Lemmon's AA meeting is one of his finest moments of his career. The scene in the greenhouse is another example of Lemmon's sinking into alcoholism.
Remick also has many memorable moments, especially her tempting of a sober Lemmon in the final fourth of the film. A must see.
