Review of Dark Star (1974) by Shock S — 25 Aug 2008

I only watched this because I was told it was a classic! Little did I know that it was Carpenter's worst film ever. Well maybe that's too harsh? I understand that it's a ham up, semi comedy with heavy irony.

But sorry, it's just crap! Maybe if I'd seen it when I was younger I would have thought it was some kind of masterpiece. So many people seem to think that it is. Quoting phrases like "I suppose I better feed the alien then?" and one of the characters getting more insane every time he records to his log.

Sorry I can't see it. I can see where Carpenter has expanded on his style over the years, but this one is just rubbish and the film knows it, maybe some people think that this is "troma" charming before the "troma" era even began, but to me it's just crap sorry.
