Review of Dark Star (1974) by Morten S — 05 Dec 2015
Bizarre and interesting debut of a movie by John Carpenter.
Since this was acurlly a student-film of his, it's fascinating how many ideas he manged to cramb in and turn it into a fun little movie at the same time. Especially on such a rock-buttom budget.
Maybe not one of his absolute best, but it's still one of those movies, which is a prime example of that you don't allways need a big budget to make an engaging and fun movie. As long as you have a decent script, good directing, decent editing, good pacing and imagination, you can't go wrong. As well putting your film well together, which Dark Star certainly is.
Apart from being written by Carpenter, it was also co'written by Dan O Bannon who would later go on and write 'Alien'. You will definitely notice some similarities while watching it :).
