It's a good idea for a story, but got boring at times. The special effects were mediocre even when taking into consideration when it was made. While I like Rufus Sewell, I don't think he should have been the lead actor.
As a matter of fact, I think it would've been a much better film if Sewell switched parts with Kiefer Sutherland. I think this is a film that could strongly benefit from being remade.
