Review of Cul-de-sac (1966) by Edgar C — 12 Nov 2012
Roman Polanski's comedic thriller masterpiece Cul-De-Sac is simply a film that any film aficianado owes to themselves to see. There are very few films that have blended so many elements together so perfectly without losing focus of the main characters.
The plot itself isn't all that important, as it's more about these people and how they deal with the situations that they're put in over and over again. Like always with Polanski, the film is beautifully shot.
It's haunting and creepy, being filmed on a remote island in the middle of nowhere. The performances are superb as well, from everyone. It's a shame that the film doesn't get more attention.
It feels tonely like a pre-cursor to Chinatown in some ways, but regardless, it's a masterwork in its own right. Highly recommended.
