Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Jim H — 03 Jan 2016
IN A NUTSHELL it's about a young novelist played by Mia Wasikowska who falls in love with a suave baronet, Tom Hiddleston. He whisks her away to England after the mysterious death of her father, weds her and moves her into the big old mansion house he shares with his sister (weird) to live a happy, trouble free life with each other.
..Not in this movie guys and girls! Just as she's settling in to life there she begins to have a number of frightful encounters with a hideous ghoul who she seems to suspect may be the spirit of a woman murdered in the house.
The cgi for the effects in this movie leave a bit to be desired, the ghost of the dead woman is especially tacky, but on the whole the story keeps you interested, and is Hiddleston's best performance since impersonating Robert De Niro on the Graham Norton Show, cringe.
There are a few squeamish parts in the movie that slap you in the face just when you may be starting to lose concentration, all in all it's a good watch! 'Beware of Crimson Peak!'.
