Review of Creep (2014) by Nathan C — 16 Aug 2018
I was hanging out with a friend last weekend and while I was browsing Netflix for horror movies one in particular caught my eye. Creep is a 2014 found footage horror movie directed by Patrick Bryce and written by both him and Mark Duplass, who also serve as the leading roles.
The story begins with Aaron (Patrick Bryce) a camera man contacted by Josef (Mark Duplass) to shoot a movie of sorts in a cabin in the woods.
Acting.
When I first selected the movie I didn't expected that much but the story was simple and easy to follow and the acting, portrayed by just two guys, was good, in my opinion the strongest actor was Duplass, as he carried the movie making me feel really uncomfortable and building a good tension every time he talked. I can't really say anything good about Patrick's acting, he doesn't really start to develop as a character until the end of the movie but it was good seeing him trying to keep it as real as he could, unfortunately that brought up other problems such as horror movie clichés and a very obvious turn of events but at the end it all came together very nicely.
Camera.
I loved the simplicity of it, although I'm a sucker for found footage, I feel like it did a very good job building the situation and making it feel claustrophobic and somewhat real, the parts were the image went off are particularly my favorites as the actor's speech carried the scene.
Story.
The story was somewhat obvious but at times it made me feel like I didn't knew who was really the bad guy and that was really complemented with the camera work as it made you feel either of the actors could be the psycho.
In conclusion, I feel the movie has very strong acting and good camera work to complement it, there's really not much else as the story is simple and obvious but those 2 things make it worth watching because they transform how you perceive the movie.
