Review of Collateral Damage (2002) by Rodri P — 16 May 2009
2: Watching the filmmakers talk about the films social significance during the special features is pretty funny. I'd say it is better viewed as simply an action picture. I will admit that the picture is more relevant to current geopolitical issues than the usual Arnold fare.
It touches on the appropriateness of revenge, justice, military retribution, etc, but all in an Arnold fashion. Schwarzenegger definitely has screen presence. He also seems to choose his scripts pretty well.
Very short lines of dialogue and lots of explosions are usually what's in order. Entertaining the whole way through, with a twist at the end I didn't see coming until about half way through the film.
It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is the right attitude in this case.
