Review of Cold in July (2014) by Ryan H — 26 Jul 2014
Cold in July is an oddly suitable title for a neo-noir thriller like this. The mystery is maintained through a consistently paced narrative that continually shifts the situation to various extremes to keep you on edge.
It isn't what you expect as the film constantly finds ways to through you off the scent but while the outcome is rather underwhelming, the journey is solid and you don't realise time passing by.
It drama is engaging, the tension at times really its a mark and Michael C Hall just stands out as an emotional energy for the film. It's very deadpan in it's delivery, but it works effectively to convey the maturity of a vulnerable man.
