Review of Code 46 (2003) by Jason Y — 29 Dec 2004
I?m all for movies about a dreary future run by an oppressive leadership. But these films also have to have an entertaining quality about them in order to keep me entertained. This film almost had that, but missed the mark by a few feet.
I liked Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton, and felt they did their best to carry this movie as best they could. But with all the hokey gibberish about cloning and illegal childbearing, the film seems like it could have been a student film, and less than 30 minutes long.
I couldn?t help but feel how amateur this film felt most of the time. And no matter how much they tried to cram their meaning down my throat, I could have cared less for any of these people. You know its bad when you don?t care if two characters in love can actually stay together.
This film reminded me of other films like Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner. I know this one doesn?t deal with robots, but it has similar themes. But the other two are much better films. .
