Review of Code 46 (2003) by Noel K — 07 Apr 2009
An intelligent, romantic sci-fi flick (a rarity),about abusive laws (code 46), governmental intrusion (think big brother) and behavior modification (memory cluster removal, DNA compatibility. No special effects or cool gadgetry but Michael Winterbottom (chuckle now) does a very good job setting the mood and framing the scenes to project a time in the near future (lots of architectural back drops using locals in Shanghai & Dubai). The sound track by Free Association is just awesome (Mick Jones makes an appearance believe it or not).
'Free Association is comprised of ex-DJ-turned-film-composer David Holmes and Steve Hilton. Together the two have fused an exotic ambient score that may be unconstrained and undirected, but captures a surreal atmosphere that connects one to the story and by the same grace, lets the score stand on its own.'.
