Review of Code 46 (2003) by Nick M — 10 Aug 2011
Set in the near future where genetic cloning is now more advanced, William (Tim Robbins) is sent to Shanghai to try and uncover which company rep is supplying fake travel documents, under the influence of an empathy virus.
There he has an affair with worker Maria, which violates Code 46 and throws his life into disarray. One of Michael Winterbottomâ(TM)s best films, this utilises the futuristic backdrop of Shanghai to great affect creating a realistic view of a changed world.
The story works by focusing on the relationship between the two leads and is backed by an atmospheric score from David Holmes.
