Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Jeff G — 10 Mar 2016
At the time, this was pretty awesome. Found footage films were a new thing and the way Matt Reeves committed to that form really helps. It seems really plausible the way it cuts back to a prior relationship and then to current circumstances, and does help build history in a smart way.
It doesn't have great staying power though. Most of the time you just want these people to die and it becomes a pretty run-of-the-mill action movie with this genre.
