Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Alex O — 19 Aug 2012
J.J. Abrams is just a master with this sub-genre of movie. I found often found myself, literally, with my jaw dropped staring into the screen, which is to say the effects were just outstanding. I found the characters just right for the movie.
They were courageous enough to venture through the monster infested city once the monster arrived. Of course the camera work did get a bit annoying but it only adds to the realism of an actual disaster.
It's defiantly intense and really isn't much negative. The ending was very disappointing and there could have been a lot more ways the film makers could have went about this. There could have been more backstory but it was obvious this was an all out showcase of a normal day gone horribly wrong.
Nice.
