Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Lucás L — 09 Jul 2009
Perhaps no other film (maybe The Purple Rose of El Cario) reflects so genuinenly the greatness of cinema and its love of it. Tornatore's nostalgic fabuel was made in the 80's, when cinema was loosing its battle versus VHS; this film could not have timed better.
Inheriter of the italina neorrealism, Tornatore works with succes this almost-autobiografical of his own love to cinema. His domain at directing proves that he is a man pasionate of cinema. These reasons plus Morricone's powerful themes plus Noriet's and the rest of the cast's performance make this film an instant classic that still makes us cry, wonder, feel, unforget, wonder and comprehend that we ourselves make the cinema grand.
