Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Joe C — 01 Jan 2015
I don't deny that Cinema Paradiso is highly manipulative, if not artificial by nature. However, the same applies to every love letter. I don't see the problem of being sentimental in a love letter to cinema.
One of the greatest film depicting mentorship, though Alfredo's vision borrowed from Fellini's I Vitelloni somehow. The cast has delivered their best to touch its audience's heart, highlighted by Philippe Noiret's flawless performance.
The film, however, could not have enjoyed its reputation without Ennio Morricone's moving score.
