Review of Cinderella (2013) by Mark F — 21 May 2016
I was expecting a subversive reimagining of the story where it turns out the wicked stepmother is just misunderstood - that seems to be the way with remakes these days - but instead Cinderella is just a faithfully told, sweet and refreshingly simple adaptation of the classic fairytale.
The kingdom is visually sumptuous and has a real charm about it, it's how you might have imagined it as a kid. The whole thing is beautifully written with a positive central message. There's no adult jokes slipped in, no knowing winks to the camera, just pure innocence and a confidence in good.
For me, this is an instant classic and the blueprint for any future live action remakes from Disney.
