Review of Chronicle of a Summer (1961) by Frances B — 06 Nov 2007
I can understand the effect this film has had on cinema, and I know how innovative it was at the time. that said, it was very hard for me to sit through the movie. the two filmmakers are so proud to be doing something so new, so revolutionary and get stuck on that fact.
the subjects are affected parisians. there were few natural and poignant subjects, and too far apart. definitely influential, but there are better examples of cinema verite.
