Review of Chronicle of a Summer (1961) by Timothy S — 14 Dec 2007
Taking important lessons from Vertov's techniques but not giving in to any of the earlier director's silly urges, this documentary stands as a fascinating search for human truth in the minutia of details it gathers as it wanders around Paris.
Refreshingly self-reflexive and having no pretensions to portraying true actuality, this is a model of great film making.
