Review of Christmas in Connecticut (1945) by Johnathon W — 28 Nov 2017
Delightful romantic comedy, that while has aged a bit, remains a fun addition to the holiday movie rotation. Barbara Stanwyck is appealing as Elizabeth Lane, a single career woman masquerading as talented cook & house-wife, and even when being deceitful you find yourself rooting for her.
She gets nice support from the rest of the cast, particularly the great Sydney Greenstreet, who gets to use his remarkable gravitas in a rare comedic performance. Behind the camera, director Peter Godrey has fun with the concept and keeps the story moving, though one too many twists slows it down a bit (a subplot involving the Navy Commander having a fiancee is not needed).
Nevertheless, makes a sweet romantic comedy and a fine addition to the Christmas movie rotation.
